To Blog or not to blog...that is the question
Recently someone left a comment on my blog. I was particularly struck by this quote: "So how does this work? U post something on ur blog page and hope someone will give you some advice....Or is this like your diary(which men absolutely refuse they keep but always have a way of finding how to put their thoughts down and call it something else(a blog page)" Everyone I know who has come across has questions or comments on my boldness/honesty on the web. A smart answer would seem to suggest that I've adopted a strategy known as "Security in obscurity." but I think the web does not really support this strategy especially when one has an interesting blog.
I think Michael Kinsley in his article is right on the money when he says:
""But anonymity does not actually seem to interest many of the Web's most devoted users. They are the ones who start their own sites, or sign up for MySpace, or submit videos to YouTube. Quite the opposite: The most successful Web sites seem to be those where people can abandon anonymity and use the Internet to stake their claims as unique individuals. Here is a list of my friends. Here are all the CDs in my collection. Here is a picture of my dog. On the Internet, not only does everybody know that you're a dog. Everybody knows what kind of dog, how old, your taste in collars, your favorite dog food recipe, and so on."
I think I want people to know who I am. For the longest time I hide behind a mask never letting people see who I really am or what's on my mind.....this blog gives me the time and the space to express the truth about me.
