Open source and music

I have been a huge music fan and in particular a Hip hop Fan for a long time and ever since I discovered the internet I began to obtain music from the net for my favorite hip hop artists. My love for music drove me to experiment with several Dj Tools, especially software based Dj turntables. Some of my favorites included Virtual Turntables from Carrot Innovations (development has since stopped) which I began using pretty early and my current favorite DSS DJ.

I have been searching for an open source alternative and my searches have come to naught. Discussions I have had with an Open Source Evangelist brought out some interesting ideas: If indeed I support open source I should actively use open source tools and endeavors to improve them either by adding to the source code or participating in communities actively.

After pondering on this Idea I will proceed to download an application from Source-forge. If anyone has any open source software to recommend please email me at

The nature of open source growth is through an investment of time both by the user and developer community to create the best software for use by all. Let's all support open source initiatives we find of interest for the improvement of our application
